Thanking DOT for Valley school zone designation

Thank you to the state Department of Transportation for recognizing and listening to the residents of Juneau.

I was born and raised in Juneau and also attended Glacier Valley School, and have watched over the years how that intersection has become a traffic nightmare. I am just sorry that two innocent lives had to be taken in order to get a result.

I know making that a school zone has been a long and hard battle for many of us. Although the overpass was a good idea, it did not take into consideration the kids who would be riding their bikes to and from school.

Floyd Dryden has had a crossing guard for many years and those kids are very fortunate.

Again, as a past longtime Juneauite and past resident, I would like to applaud the state DOT for their consideration and appropriate action.

I pray for the family of Skyler, whom I have known for years, and I wish them strength and healing in the days to come.
