Walter Soboleff, who turns 95 on Nov. 14, and his wife, Stella, are greeted Friday by their great-grandson Kyle Morley, who turned 6 years old on Friday. The celebration was in Soboleff's honor and was held at the Sealaska Corporation offices. Soboleff, born in the Tlingit village of Killisnoo, was raised in Tenakee. His moiety is Raven, and his clan is Dog Salmon. He is a Presbyterian pastor and a Tlingit scholar. He holds honorary doctorates from Dubuque University in Iowa and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Soboleff has been a director of Sealaska Corp. and president and secretary of the Alaska Native Brotherhood Grand Camp, and he chaired the Alaska Board of Education.
