Sex offender receives more time

Posted: Sunday, November 09, 2008

JUNEAU - A convicted Juneau sex offender suspected of trying to flee the state in a kayak has been sentenced to two years in prison.

The probation of 39-year-old Erik B. Jacobsen was revoked.

He was sentenced additionally to two months in jail and placed on unsupervised probation for four years for being out of compliance with his sex offender requirements.

Jacobsen in 2000 was convicted of sexual abuse of a minor.

Alaska State Troopers in May received a tip that Jacobsen might be running away.

An Air National Guard helicopter spotted Jacobsen kayaking south of Juneau near Endicott Arm. Troopers caught up with him as he crossed Holkam Bay.
