Russell Bartoo

Russell R. Bartoo, 69, of Goldendale, Wash. died Oct. 24, 2005 at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles, Ore.

He was born Dec. 4, 1935 in Harrison Valley, Pa. He attended Carrick High School in Pittsburgh, and joined the Air Force Reserve while starting college at the University of Pittsburgh. After serving in the Air Force for 16 years, mostly in Alaska, he left the military and worked for a telephone utility. From 1969 until 2005, he fished commercially in Alaska.

He and his wife, Alice, were married in 1976 in Juneau. They retired and moved to Goldendale in 1993.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on his house and acreage, and volunteering with the local search-and-rescue organization.

He is survived by his wife, Alice of Goldendale; his sister, Barbara Bartoo of Juneau; his brothers, Richard Bartoo of Charlotte, N.C. and Rowland Bartoo of Bartlett, Texas; and several nephews and nieces.

A celebration of his life will be from 7 to 10 p.m., Dec. 4, at the Prospector Hotel in Juneau. Memorial contributions may be made to Klickitat County Search and Rescue, c/o Erdman Funeral Home.
