Alaska prisoners' right guide updated

ANCHORAGE - A rights guide for Alaska prisoners has been updated.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska Foundation says the online guide is free and a print version may be purchased by prisoners, advocates and others.

ACLU officials say the guide summarizes prisoners' rights in Alaska.

There are three parts to the guide.

One examines the current Alaska laws for prisoners. Another looks at federal and state prison litigation reforms.

A third part gives an overview of some major policies and procedures of the Alaska Department of Corrections.

Jeffrey Mittman, executive director of ACLU in Alaska, says the online version was last updated two years ago. He says it's been several years since the print version was updated.
