Sorry to see that Elkins was dropped

"What?" said the King. "You dare disagree with me? Off with your head!"

The above scenario belongs in fiction rather than in the Alaska state government. However, Jim Elkins recently discovered that his political head was cut off merely because he expressed some concern about the Longevity Bonus when speaking to Ketchikan AARP.

One day the governor had nothing but praise for Jim and Jim's ability to do a great job representing the people and communities of Southeast Alaska. Jim's comments to AARP then caused the governor to immediately withdraw his nomination of Jim for Robin Taylor's vacated Senate seat.

This conduct by Murkowski makes crystal clear that anyone who raises any question about his personal agenda will be politically terminated. Additionally, it appears that our Senate, which had the legal authority to confirm this appointment, dutifully capitulated to the governor's whim.

This is a sad day for open expression and discussion of issues that are important to all of us.
