ANCHORAGE - A math teacher at Colony High School in Palmer has been named Alaska teacher of the year.

Robert Williams was presented with the award Sunday at the annual conference of the Association of Alaska School Boards meeting in Juneau.

Larry LeDoux, Alaska commissioner of Education and Early Development, said Williams forms bonds with his students and demonstrates he cares through a variety of ways including becoming an adviser and showing up for after-school activities.

Williams has taught for 21 years and has been at Colony in Palmer for the last two. He teaches algebra, geometry and advanced placement calculus.
