Juneau resident Shea Hunter Walling died Oct. 29, 2009, during a rock climbing accident in Waimea, Hawaii. He was 17.

He was born July 2, 1992. He was raised by his loving parents, Jay Walling and Kellie Walling, both of Juneau. He was a senior at Honokaa High School in Hawaii. Each summer he returned to Juneau, where he has been working in the commerical fishing industry since he was a young boy.

He also traveled to Croatia to meet and establish a relationship with his relatives there, which was such an important part of who he was, his family said. He will continue to be loved and remembered by his family.

He is survived by his mother, Kellie Walling; father, Jay Walling; step-mother, Cassy Blackwell; siblings Rayne Tyler Walling, of Juneau, and step-brother, Connor Blackwell, of Juneau; maternal grandparents, Tom and Marlene Mungle, of Juneau; paternal grandparents, Roger and Pam Walling, of Juneau; great-grandmother, Sally Mungle, of Texas; great-grandmothers ,Shirley White and Pat Walling, of Oregon; aunts and uncles, Dave, aunt Terri, uncle Trace, aunt Kim, auntie Jeanne and his beloved uncle, "Nort"; cousins, Jessica, Gerred, Michan, Chayse, Justin, Randy and Sabrina; and "soul bro," J.D. Cameron.

He had a host of other relatives and brothers in both Juneau and Honokaa who will remember him by his hugs and slugs. His friends and family will remember the long list of things he loved: commercial fishing, long boarding, kick boxing, hunting, body boarding, traveling and especially working in his garden.

"We would like to express our gratitude to Jim Sabatini for your heart of gold," his family wrote, "Honokaa High School for keeping us close and the city of Juneau for all their love and support. We can feel the beating of your heart."
