Regarding the remarks by Mr. Somerville, yes, they could be taken as a personal assault. They could also be taken in the context that he said they were made, simply an effort to lighten an otherwise tense situation. A situation brought about by the lack of representation or comments that were scheduled to take place by the very Natives missing from the meeting.

Lest anyone accuse me of white supremacy or some such, I am a card-carrying member of Sealaska Corp. and Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska. My problem with this whole situation is that there's a lot of smoke and mirrors going on here. Explain the issues as to why "my" representatives were missing from this meeting, and get on with the program.
