ANCHORAGE - The Anchorage School District said reading, writing and math scores for students showed declines last year.
The district's annual report card indicated Anchorage schools did not make progress toward meeting education standards set by the state in 2003.
The report said 81 percent of students in grades third through 10th were proficient in reading and writing, down one percentage point from the year before.
Math showed a deeper dip, from 76 percent proficiency in the 2006-2007 academic year to 73 percent proficiency last year.
The state Department of Education said statewide results on reading, writing and math also were down slightly last year after several years of improvement.
