ANCHORAGE - A scam came to the attention of Anchorage police when an e-mail arrived in the inbox of the supervisor of the cyber crimes unit.
The fake e-mail appeared to be a customer satisfaction survey from Wal-Mart but it was obviously a credit card scam that has been circulating online, said Sgt. Ron Tidler.
The e-mail message offers the chance to win a $150 gift certificate by agreeing to complete the survey. It then directs users to another Web site to pull off the hoax.
Once there, users are encouraged to fill out the survey and enter in their credit card and pin numbers so the $150 can be applied to their accounts, police said.
Wal-Mart confirmed that the e-mail was a scam. The company does not ask for personal financial information through e-mails.
