JUNEAU - The Juneau Lions Club announced recently that the Board of Directors has approved the dates, location, divisions in the tournament and some age changes for the 65th annual Invitational Gold Medal Basketball Tournament.
The tournament will be held March 20-26, 2011 at the Juneau-Douglas High School Gym. Player Divisions for the 65th Tournament will be "B," "C" and "Masters." Tournament Co-Chairs for 2011 are Juneau Lions Club vice presidents Lion Steve Brandner, Lion Edward Hotch and Lion Louise Kadinger.
Changes: Starting age for the "C" Division has been changed back to 32 years of age and for the "Masters" Division returned to 42 years of age on the first day of the 2011 tournament. One big reason for the return to these two beginning age zones is so that younger basketball players will have additional opportunities to play in the "B" Division.
The Juneau Lions Club is seeking and accepting letters of interest from all teams interested in participating in the 2011 Tournament. Any Team that wishes to be considered for playing in the "B," "C," or "Masters" division is asked to send a letter or an e-mail that states the community they represent, division they desire to play, and name of the team point-of-contact. The Lions Club asks for separate letters of interest for each division. All letters must be received by Nov. 30 so the Juneau Lions Club can review them and offer official invitations by Dec. 15.
