FAIRBANKS - A Fairbanks man has received a 10-year sentence for his part in a fake drug deal that led to two other arrests.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that 28-year-old John Hegdal received the sentence as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors in which he testified against his primary coconspirator, 23-year-old Justin Thomerson.
Hegdal and Thomerson were convicted of using a friend, 23-year-old Marella Gregory, to lure two cousins from Northway to a Fairbanks apartment in June 2009. The cousins were attempting to buy $1,400 in marijuana, but when they arrived at the apartment, Hegdal and Thomerson robbed them at gunpoint.
Thomerson was sentenced to 33 years in prison. Gregory received a three-year sentence.
