FAIRBANKS - A Fairbanks taxicab passenger is accused of assaulting the driver, who placed the 39-year-old man under citizen's arrest.

Alaska State Troopers say Edward Warner Smagge III was arrested by the driver, Richard Dickman, Wednesday on charges of assault and reckless endangerment.

Smagge is being held at the Fairbanks Correctional Center without bail.

According to troopers, Smagge is on felony probation and his officer ordered custody for violating probation conditions.

Troopers say Dickman reported he was being assaulted by his passenger, who grabbed the steering wheel and Dickman's coat, causing the driver to temporarily lose control of his van. Troopers say Smagge fled but responding officers quickly caught up with him and driver conducted the citizen's arrest.
