JUNEAU - Applications are being accepted for the 2009 Hilary Lindh Scholarship for school-aged children in Juneau.
Four local students (two girls and two boys), in grades K through 5 and 6 through 12, will be awarded a season pass to Eaglecrest Ski Area on Dec. 11 based on their scholastic achievement, competitive spirit and financial need.
To be considered for the scholarship, students must be a resident of Juneau, they must attend a school in the Juneau School District or equivalent, and have maintained a "C" average for the previous school year, according to the scholarship application.
The program was established in 1992 by the Eaglecrest Board of Directors in honor of local ski racer Hilary Lindh's silver medal in the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics and to acknowledge the hard work that goes into the sport of downhill ski racing. Lindh, now retired from racing, was inducted into the U.S. Ski Hall of Fame in 2006, and the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
Applications are due Dec. 4 and may be submitted to Juneau schools, Foggy Mountain Shop, Nugget Alaska Outfitters, or at Eaglecrest Ski Area.
Winners will be announced Dec. 11. Each applicant who turns in a completed form will earn a single lift ticket and an all-day gear rental from the rental shop at the mountain.
