Juneau Christian School announces its honor rolls

The Juneau Christian School would like to announce their A and A/B honor rolls for the first quarter:

"A" honor roll students

Sixth grade: Callie Cummins, Cassie Orbistondo, Brook Slater and Marissa White.

Seventh grade: Briana Donahue and Lindsey Pettijohn.

Eighth grade: Jacob Chamberlin and Andrew Hart.

"A/B" honor roll students

Sixth grade: Franelle Honea, Alissa King and Loryn Mason.

Seventh grade: Matthew Lakeman.

Eighth grade: Luke Kirkham, Danielle Orbistondo and Kyle Schmitz.

Swanston enlists in Army National Guard

Alex Swanston of Juneau has enlisted in the Alaska Army National Guard as an infantryman. Pvt. Swanston is a senior at Juneau-Douglas High School. His parents are Andrew Swanston of Juneau and Mary Kelly of Butter, Ala. He will attend 16 weeks of physically and mentally challenging training at Fort Benning, Ga. After completing training, he will return to Juneau and drill 39 days a year. His future plans are to attend college after he completes basic and advance training.

As a guardsman, Swanston is eligible for educational benefits including State Tuition Assistance, which currently pays 100 percent tuition at the University of Alaska and the Montgomery GI Bill.
