School: Juneau-Douglas High School.
Art of choice: "I enjoy stage crew and technical theater because I do things that make a show look good and work smoothly. I absolutely love the finished picture."
How it started: "One day I went in to help, and Lucas had some work I could do. Since then, I help with most of the productions that come through the auditorium."
Experience: "This is my second year working in the high school auditorium, and I helped after school in eighth grade before that."
All in the family: "My parents are teachers and they stay late at the school a lot. ... My mom loves to design lighting for her shows and she does a lot of the designing for her productions. My sister loves the theater and enjoys working with Lucas, too, so she helps out when she can."
Her mother Michaela Moore teaches theater arts at JDHS and a is producing director with the JDHS theater program. Her father, Richard Moore, teaches choir and leads the JDHS Choir.
Favorites: "As for theater, I like all the shows that have come through. My dad, my mom and Lucas Hoiland are my favorite theatrical 'masters!' As for literature, and music, I like just about everything."
Future plans: "I think I will always help in the theater. I believe, no matter where I am, I will find a way to be involved with stage crew work. It's a job where I can see amazing shows and also be a part of them. It's perfect for me! I know I'll go to college, but that's as far as I've thought about it right now. I still have two years to decide."
You should know: "I'm in my dad's choir, and I love singing. I love my parents more than anything else in the world. I hope I can be half of what my parents are when I grow up."
Auditorium manager and one of the producers and technical lead for JDHS's current production of "Auntie Mame," Lucas Hoiland, says: "Shanae'a's level of production and performance exceeds that of any technical stage student I've had before. She listens to direction and always completes her tasks very well. I can count on her to help other students along the way. She has a sharp wit! A great sense of humor makes for a lot of fun backstage."
