On Nov. 6, Capital City Celebrations hosted a dedication reception for the nine historic panels created last year in honor of Alaska's 50th anniversary. The graphic display panels, created by Ron Klein and June Hall, were at that time placed permanently in the lower floor of the Egan Library at UAS.
Speakers at the ceremony included Capital City Celebrations committee chair Kathy Hildre, UAS Chancellor John Pugh, committee liason Kathy Kolkhorst Ruddy, and artist Ron Klein.
The panels, a legacy project of Capital City Celebrations, were designed to emphasize the historic dynamics of Alaska's statehood struggle over a long period, and to provide a clear picture of Juneau's role in that process. They were made possible through a Alaska Humanities Forum grant.
Capital City Celebrations was formed in November 2007 at the request of the mayor and Assembly to raise funds, create events and co-sponsor statehood community celebrations in Juneau.
