Kudos for domestic partner policy

Letter to the editor

It is not very often that people praise government for their actions, but when it warrants it I think at least a letter is worth it: Hurray for CBJ! The city government has walked right into the 21st century and moved a few steps closer to equality and fair play by extending health benefits to domestic partners.

Rod Swope is to be commended for approving a program that has been needed in this city for a long time.

Our elected and hired officials have put its employees' and their families' well-being ahead of everything.

Shame on the employees and anyone who opposes this move, especially at a time when the prospects of individual health care coverage are dismal in our country.

Shame on the people who are "offended" by the inclusive language of the form - they are acting as if domestic partnerships are less valid than their own "government-sanctioned" union.

Domestic-partnered families live, work and pay taxes in this city. They have earned the benefits that are due. I'll say it again: Hurray for CBJ!
