According to a criminal complaint filed in Fairbanks District Court, 49-year-old Virginia McCotter called police Thursday to report the shooting and her 54-year-old husband confirmed it when officers arrived.
But officers said they became suspicious about how the man could have shot himself given the nature of the wound, and that McCotter later told them she shot her husband with the .30-30 rifle during an argument.
She was arraigned Friday on a charge of first-degree felony assault.
