FAIRBANKS - A panel of Alaska historians, journalists and state leaders are planning to discuss the legacy of former Sen. Ted Stevens this week at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Faculty members Terrence Cole and Jerry McBeath, Inupiat elder, activist and author Willie Hensley are among the panelists. Also joining the discussion are Anchorage journalist Michael Carey and Stevens Papers Project archivist Mary Anne Hamblen.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the panel discussion is coordinated by the university's Rasmuson Library and is part of the Ted Stevens Papers Project. The project is an effort to give historic context to the thousands of documents generated during the decades Stevens served the state in public office.

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in Schaible Auditorium in the Bunnell building on the Fairbanks campus.
