Robert Drew Fleek, known to friends and family as Bob and Poppy Bob, died Nov. 8, 2002, in Arizona.
He was born in 1923 in Inspiration, Ariz., and moved to Douglas with his family at the age of 11. He graduated from Douglas High School and attended the Frank Wiggins Trade School for radio in Los Angeles. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a member of the Arizona Army National Guard until his retirement in 1983.
He was a Scoutmaster and enjoyed amateur radio, computers and dancing. Friends and family said he was always willing to tend to the needs of others.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Georgia; daughters Ann Fleek and Janet Cook, Phoenix, and Sharon Warren, Anchorage; son David Fleek, Phoenix; sisters Leona Hill, Phoenix, and Patricia Varness, Juneau; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marjorie Niemi and brother Elroy Fleek.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Nov. 16, at Greenwood Memory Lawn Chapel in Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Families of Arizona, 105 N. 5th St., Phoenix, AZ, 85004.
