Clobber, Rontowski to do stand-up

JUNEAU - Stand-up comedians Chris Clobber and Karen Rontowski will perform at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19, at Marlintini's Lounge in the Airport Shopping Center.

Tickets are $12, and Saturday's night's show is no-smoking.

Known for her observational humor, Rontowski has been touring full-time as a comedian for more than a decade. She's traveled through Canada and Japan and opened for Bob Hope, Ray Charles and The Monkees.

'XXXmas' burlesque show tickets on sale

JUNEAU - Advance tickets are on sale now for the Kitschy Yum-Yum burlesque crew's holiday production, "XXXmas," 7:30 and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25-26, at the Hangar Ballroom in Merchants Wharf.

The program aims to explore the true nature of giving and receiving, as well as the inexorable hold of classic Christmas tales.

Tickets are available on a sliding scale, $10 to $20, at Hearthside Books or at the door. If the previous burlesque shows are any indication, they will go fast.

KTOO to host auction, celebrate show's 30th

JUNEAU - KTOO-FM will hold its fall radio auction from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.

More than 160 items, including breakfasts, dinner, helicopter adventures, tools and artwork will be included.

"Women's Prerogative," a women's show on KTOO, will celebrate its 30th birthday this month. A special three-hour program, 7-10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, will include music, interviews with former hosts and segments about influential figures in women's music such as Holly Near, Cris Williamson, Margie Adam, Diedre McCalla and more.

Alaska One to hold 23rd poster contest

JUNEAU -The Alaska One Public Television Network has announced a statewide call for art for its annual poster design.

The network puts on poster contests each year. Linda Beach, a quilt artist from Chugiak, won the 22nd contest this year with a piece called "Postcard from Ketchikan."

All entrants must reside in Alaska. Each artist may submit up to three slides of art on a compact disc. Entries must be submitted personally by the artist. All art must have been completed in the last five years, and work which has been shown before is acceptable.

The entries will be judged by a selection committee, and the poster will be introduced in the statewide spring 2006 public broadcasting campaign.

Entries, a title, dimensions, contact information and a written description up to 200 words about the inspiration are due by Friday, Jan. 6, to Gretchen Gordon, director of Development & Community Outreach, Alaska One Call for Art 2006, KUAC TV 9/Alaska One, University of Alaska Fairbanks, P.O. Primrose to play dance workshop

JUNEAU - Primrose, a three-piece band featuring Martha DeFreest on violin, will play baroque and classical music for an English country dance workshop from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the old Capital School gym, now the Terry Miller Legislative Office building, at Sixth and Main streets.
