On behalf of our visitor industry's Best Management Practices Committee, I would like to thank each of the 50 local cruise/tour operators and their 877 employees who signed onto and participated in the Best Management Practices program in 2002. The program, put in place by the tour operators and the CBJ in 1997, enjoyed its most successful summer to date.

The goal of Best Management Practices is to be accountable for and reduce negative impacts - from traffic congestion to noise - in Juneau during the busy visitor season. By closely scrutinizing and monitoring our operations, tour operators were able to reduce negative impacts in 2002, while providing visitors with unique, world-class experiences.

We recognize we still have more to achieve and we pledge to continue to refine the program moving forward into 2003. Thanks again to each of you for your contributions and efforts to improve the overall quality of life for our friends and neighbors in Juneau.
