Opinions from out of town do matter

Posted: Tuesday, November 18, 2003

I would like to address Denis Rehfeld's comment about the road out of Juneau that states:

"I fail to appreciate how the opinions of people who do not live in Juneau become a factor in a poll that says 'Juneau' - not 'Juneau including Haines and Skagway' (or Sparks, Nev., for that matter). Truly, the issue is about what Juneau residents want."

I feel that the issue is just as important to some non-residents as residents. This is because the issue affects others besides residents. I was raised in Juneau and moved down south a couple years ago to be able to experience life in a bigger city, travel more and go to college. But Juneau is still my home and I visit there as often as I can, but transportation is an issue. The price of gas to drive there would be considerably less than the price of flying there. I am sure that alternative access methods to Juneau would be helpful to others besides me for the same or different reasons, and I feel we deserve to voice our opinions on the matter despite not being residents.
