Domestic partners policy is immoral

Posted: Tuesday, November 18, 2003

The closing statement by Donna Pierce (regarding the city's new domestic policy) was an act of cowardice. The papers were signed on city time with no deliberation or announcement; the workers should have the same right to fight it on city time.

I am married, I have children, I pay taxes and I own a home. This small piece of allowing domestic partners the same benefits as married couples intrudes on the sanctity of marriage. There is moral decay in the fabric of America. Why? Because of small seemingly insignificant things such as this. We as society are unweaving the foundation of which this country was built. If this is only the start of the falling of the morals and integrity of this city, I hate to imagine our future. A place were it's not safe to raise a family.

Why can't I get coverage for my dogs? I deem them no less a member of my family as a domestic partner. I don't say kudos - I say grow a backbone! I see far more negative side effects to this then I do positive. The margin for abuse is greater then what the city officials lead us to believe. It's the taxpayers money on the line; it should be the taxpayers who decide what to do. Not one man. History has shown us the power and destruction that one man can cause.
