FAIRBANKS - A 41-year-old Arizona man who worked in Barrow has been sentenced to five and a half months in federal prison for stealing airplane parts and selling them on e-Bay.

Kevin Lee Parker of Gilbert also was ordered Friday to pay restitution of about $40,000.

Parker was convicted of embezzlement and mail fraud.

Parker was a mechanic employed by North Slope Borough Search and Rescue.

Federal prosecutors say Parker stole flight instruments and aircraft operating components from the rescue group's inventory.

Prosecutors say he sold them through under the name "surplusaviation."

Federal laws prohibit stealing or embezzling from organizations whose funding includes a certain level of federal grant money.
