Pray for peace

Posted: Tuesday, November 19, 2002

How fortunate we are to live in a country that is abundant in resources, beauty and most of all freedom. We take for granted our right to move about the nation exercising our freedoms and enjoying life.

Have we become a nation of complacent people who believe that our freedoms are guaranteed by the test of time and our inability to recall the horrors of war? Only our fathers and grandfathers remember the time when international global war destroyed the lives of tens of millions and had far-reaching consequences. We have become complacent in thinking international war cannot reach our homes believing our wars are fought "over there." We have become complacent in believing our smart technological weapons will limit the destruction and death and reduce the risk of prolonged war and massive causalities. Study history and recognize once war starts no one can predict the road death and destruction will take, who the players will be or what weapons will be used.

There is one thing we can all do - pray. Pray for peace. Pray daily all leaders will follow the inner spiritual guidance they receive and will act from the heart for the good of all. It is critical that while we polish the blade we pray for peace.
