As a visitor to Juneau from Duluth, Minn., I took notice of Timothy Inklebarger's piece "New Group Pushes For Better Ferries" and its allusion to the controversy over funding the Alaska Marine Highway. When the text touched on the Juneau Access project my mind was set to thinking. Now surely I am not as informed about this topic as is the average resident of Juneau, but here is my thought: If Alaska's new governor is actively "prioritizing" this project his motivations for doing so need to be examined. My gut tells me that if one looked at the potential construction contract awardees one would also see generous Murkowski campaign contributors. Hmm ... It wouldn't be the first time a politician took a minority position in favor of the palm greasing so common in today's crony capitalism. Follow the money down this road and see where you arrive.
