Denis Rehfeld is basing his conclusions upon an Empire poll. He needs to know that the voters voted down the road and I believe a vote is a more reliable basis for his conclusions than an online poll.
Personally, I voted against the road for a number of reasons. My chief concern is my child. Juneau at this point is comparatively safe for children. True, we do have our share of crime, but compare it to other places where there are through roads. Our children do not come up missing near as often as, say, Sacramento or even Anchorage. Why? No means of escape. If my daughter ever did come up missing, I would not want an additional 1,000 miles or so of unpopulated roadway to have to cover in my search efforts.
Mr. Rehfeld may dream of returning to Juneau and driving all the way here but as long as I live here and have a vote I will continue to vote against the road. Driving to Skagway and catching the ferry from there is not such a hardship when compared to the increased crime rate an easy means of escape would provide.
