Photo: Wharf's early days

Alaska aviation pioneer Shell Simmons operated Alaska Air Transport out of the building now known as Merchants Wharf in the mid-1930s. The building was then occupied by Marine Airways, Alaska Coastal Airlines in 1939 and Alaska Coastal-Ellis in 1962. Southeast Skyways used the building from 1968-78.
