Currently, 16.4 percent of workers in the health information management field have a bachelor's degree or higher. However, Claire Dixon-Lee believes that number will soon increase. "Continual advances in information processing technologies, applications and standardization of electronic health data will automate even more of the HIM processes whereby these professionals are the translators between health care providers, information technologies and users," she explains. "I see advanced education at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels growing in popularity to support the workforce needs of HIM professionals."
