Born in 1916 in Juneau to R.E. and Caroline Robertson, family members said that although he resided in Seattle, Wash. for over 60 years, he never lost his attachment to Juneau. He graduated from Juneau High School in 1934.

After graduating from Stanford University in 1938, he married Mary Eggert of Seattle, his wife of 65 years. He completed his master's degree at George Washington University and served as captain in the Army Medical Corps in Europe during World War II, earning a Bronze Star.

He established a family medical practice in Seattle and served as president of the Washington Academy of Family Physicians from 1963 to '64. He was honored by the Academy in 2000 for 50 years of outstanding commitment to family health.

He and his wife shared extensive world travel, often to cold climates reminiscent of Alaska. They enjoyed skiing, boating, camping and raising their three children. Sun Valley became a regular winter destination, and for 17 summers, they led a week-long family gathering on Orcas Island. He quit alpine skiing at the age of 86.

Family members said that his physical vitality, mental acuity, sense of humor and caring nature kept him the center of family activities through his final days.

His niece, Alison Browne, said, "Family and friends will miss this warm and caring man."

He is preceded in death by his sister, Carol Eastaugh, of Juneau.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Robertson; their children, Carol Lade and her husband, Hugh, John Robertson and his wife, Jennifer, and Cindy Blasingame and her husband, Jay; grandchildren, Brian Lade, Emily Healy, Katie Robertson and Jeff and Brett Blasingame; great grandchildren, Desmond, Ciara and Aidan Duncan Healy; brother, Elliott Robertson, of Richmond, Calif.; and nieces and nephews, including Robert Eastaugh, of Anchorage, and Alison Browne, of Juneau.
