ANCHORAGE - The Department of Defense says two soldiers based at Fort Wainwright were killed in Iraq.
Thirty-seven-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Donald V. Clark of Memphis, Tenn., and 28-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Christian P. Humphreys of Fallon, Nev., died when their helicopter crashed during a mission over Mosul.
A military spokesman says their OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopter hit wires and made a "hard landing."
The incident occurred at about 6:10 p.m. Saturday in the eastern part of the city.
The military says that "the incident appears to be combat-unrelated and there was no enemy contact in the area."
Both soldiers were assigned to the 6th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, Task Force 49, U.S. Army Alaska.
