Island Pub picked up four goals from four different players in a wild first period Sunday, as they blew past Doc Waters 5-1 in Juneau Adult Hockey Association Tier-A action at Treadwell Arena.
Dave Kovach kicked off the early onslaught with an unassisted score just minutes into the first. Brian VanKirk followed with an unassisted goal of his own less than a minute later. Alan Steffert added his team's third goal in the four-minute span off assists from Kovach and Dave Anderson.
Doc Waters was able to cut their deficit to two when Anders Peterson found the net off a helper from Brian Drew with about three minutes left in the first. Unfortunately it was the group's only score in the game.
John Kajdan pushed the lead back to three with just 1:41 left in the first off passes from Dustin Roberts and VanKirk. The period ended with Island Pub up 4-1.
Alan Steffert added the team's fifth goal early in the second off Kovach's second assist of the night, and neither squad was able to find the net again.
Island Pub's goalie Thomas McKenzie picked up 25 saves in the net.
Green 2, AK Dames 1
A rough defensive battle held both teams scoreless until the third period, when Green crawled back from a quick 1-0 deficit to pick up the win over AK Dames.
Allison Smith put the Dames on the board first with nearly 11 minutes left in the third off a nice assist from Laureen Dicarlo.
Green stormed back late, however, as Leah Cazemier found net with just four minutes left to knot up the score off a helper from Jessica Kovach. Kathleen Walsh then pushed Green ahead by the final margin in dramatic fashion, as Jennifer Bauman found her for the assist with just 1:43 left on the board.
Men's B Tier
Dk Miners 1, Orange 0
The Dk Miners found net early in the second period and fought their way to the win in a defensive battle that held both teams scoreless the rest of the way.
BJ Wilson picked up the winning goal with 14:24 left in the second, off a nice feed from teammate Dan Hickok.
Luke Adams was perfect in the net for the Miners with 18 saves. Darryl Tseu picked up 21 saves for Orange, but couldn't get the offensive help he needed.
Yellow 4, Black 3
Neither team was able to find the net through the first period, but combined for seven goals as the offenses exploded over the final two stanzas.
Travis Wolfe broke the stalemate just seconds into the second off an assist from Steve Floria. Jayme Johns pushed their advantage to two ten minutes later with an unassisted slapper.
Michele Drummond responded for Black, finding net with just 1:21 remaining in the second, cutting the lead to one.
Goals from Jeffery Johns and Jason Ginter lifted Yellow to victory in the third, however. Johns picked up an assist from Joe Sorenson, while Ginter's score was unassisted.
James Harvey and Mason Morriss added scores for Black.
Men's Tier C
The Fog 2, Yellow 1
The Fog rolled back from a first-period deficit to overwhelm Yellow after a pair of second-period scores.
Bryan Zepp put Yellow ahead with roughly 10 minutes left in the first off an assist from Larry Johansen, but his team was unable to find the net again.
Lisa Daugherty tied the score up midway through the second with an unassisted goal. Jon Barton added the winning margin with three minutes left in the second with a helper from Daniel Leder.
Tough defense held the score through a tense third period.
Glacier Seafoods 4, Blue 0
Glacier Seafoods out-shot Blue 39-12 and picked up the shutout win Sunday at Treadwell.
Erwin Vidal kicked off the scoring early in the first off a pair of nice passes from Jason Kohlhase and Brent Clancy. Clancy then added a score of his own later in the first with a helper from Zach Jones. Jason Hort kicked off the second with the team's third score, getting an assist from Lisa Ibias. Jones added his second helper to close out the scoring when he found Mike Sigler near the net midway through the second.
