Fredrick 'Fred' Morgan Jr.

Former Juneau resident Fredrick "Fred" Morgan Jr. died Sept. 24, 2009, in Anchorage. He was 70.

He was born in Juneau on Sept. 12, 1939, to Fred Morgan Sr. and Priscilla Dick Corpuz. He was of the Eagle moiety (Kaagwaantaan from Chaak Kudei Hit), Eagle Nest house.

He lived throughout Southeast Alaska, moving to Ketchikan in 1974 and living there until 2009. He worked for Juneau Cold Storage, Alaska Pipeline, and E.C. Phillips before retiring. He also served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 14 of Ketchikan and Sealaska Corp. He also was a Goldebelt shareholder.

His hobbies included handyman repair, cooking, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica Morgan; sister, Karen Morgan; brothers, Steamy, David and Wayne Morgan.

He is survived by his son, Fredrick Morgan III of Ketchikan; daughter, Wilma Matwich of Bend, Ore.; sisters, Carol Morgan of Seattle, Marlene, Elena and Evie Corpuz of Juneau; brothers, Tim Morgan of Calif., Mac, Bob and Mike Corpuz of Juneau; grandsons, Alexander Morgan of Ketchikan, Michael Hobart, Justin Colcord and Jay Colcord Jr., of Oregon; aunt and uncle Rachel and Chuck Jennings of Standwood, Wash., and so many more loving family members.

Services were held in Ketchikan at 11 a.m. Oct. 3 at the Salvation Army. Major James Halvorson officiated.
