Soldotna tops JDHS, 2-1, in OT

Zane Chapman and Jake Eames connected with a pass and Chapman fed Robin Woodby the assist

Soldotna scored an overtime goal to top Juneau-Douglas 2-1 on Wednesday at Homer Arena in the Crimson Bears' season opener.

"The coaches are pleased," assistant coach Tom Rutecki said. "They're a really good team, and we played well for our first game."

Soldotna scored first before Zane Chapman and Jakes Eames connected to set up Roby Woody with the game-tying score in the second period.

JDHS goalie Garret Cheeseman had 29 saves on 31 shots, and the Bears got off 25 shots.

The Bears (0-1) are at Homer today before facing Eagle River Friday, and Hutchinson on Saturday.
