Murkowski's win should send strong message to Palin, tea party

On Nov. 17, Sen. Lisa Murkowski became the first Senate candidate in more than 50 years to win a write-in campaign. On Nov. 2nd, thousands of Alaskans told Sarah Palin we are unique and we don't subscribe to hate- and fear-mongers or tea-party-backed candidates.

Despite a well-financed campaign designed to denigrate our seated Republican candidate, Alaskans demonstrated who we are, and what we believe in, when we returned Murkowski to office. We embraced the language of thoughtful exchange and repudiated the malicious tactics Palin embodies. We respect each other. We like our neighbors. We work hard and do our best to be good state citizens as well as Americans.

We support those who are reasonable and hard working that don't subscribe to election by fear or intimidation. In the news, I hear, "Everyone is afraid of speaking against sound-bite Sarah for fear of retaliation..." She and the tea party give you 15-second fear sound bites, "Take back America, Restore Liberty."

I don't know what country she lives in, but mine is the United States of America, We elect a new or incumbent President every four years; we elect Senators and Representatives and Governors. We have for more than 200 years; does she think it stopped because she quit as governor, abandoned our state, and then lost?

I would suggest Palin and the tea party stop using all their energy to sabotage the President and work with our governing representative, maybe we could all fix America? One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
