FAIRBANKS - State transportation officials have issued a warning about traveling the Steese Highway.

A winter storm is expected to move into the area Thursday with strong winds and 2 to 4 inches of snow. Conditions for travelers will be especially treacherous around Eagle Summit.

The Alaska Department of Transportation says crews will work to keep the 3,624-foot pass open. However, motorists are being urged to avoid the area 80 miles east of Fairbanks.
