JUNEAU - Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski says she's frustrated with Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid's push to pass legislation that would let gays serve openly in the military.
The Republican Murkowski says it seems to be a case of politics "getting in the way of the priorities." She doesn't think the issue is one lawmakers should spend considerable time debating during the lame duck session.
She says Reid is trying to "rush through" a repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy before lawmakers receive a report on the issue from service members. She says there are other issues that must be acted on this year, including whether to extend Bush-era tax credits and a plan that she says will allow the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to begin regulating emissions next year.
