FAIRBANKS - A Fairbanks man was sentenced to 26 years in prison for shooting at an Alaska State Trooper last December.

A Superior Court judge on Tuesday sentenced 25-year-old Timothy "Chad" Lobdell to 20 years for shooting at the officer and six years for probation violations in earlier cases, including a 1997 incident in which he was charged with pulling a gun on Fairbanks police officers.

Judge Niesje Steinkruger sentenced Lobdell for first-degree attempted murder, first-degree misconduct involving weapons and first-degree attempted burglary.

Lobdell shot at trooper Michael Wery on Dec. 17, 2001, while the trooper was responding to a report that someone was trying to break into a woman's house.

When troopers arrived, they spotted Lobdell in a car that had been reported stolen earlier. Wery yelled several times for Lobdell to stop the vehicle.

Lobdell fired one round at Wery with a shotgun. Wery fired back three times and fled into some woods. He was found about 90 minutes suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, frostbite and hypothermia.
