Woman arrested for firing gun downtown

JUNEAU - A 48-year-old intoxicated Juneau woman was arrested Thursday morning for allegedly shooting a pistol at a 50-year-old man at a downtown trailer. The man was not harmed.

Juneau Police Department officers arrested Edith H. Smith on charges of domestic violence assault and misconduct involving weapons. She is lodged in the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and being held on no bail.

Police received a call at 10:56 a.m. Thursday from the 50-year-old man who said Smith had shot a pistol at him at a trailer near the 550 block of South Franklin Street. Officers located Smith, who had been consuming alcohol, in a trailer on the property and arrested her.

Officers seized a .38 caliber pistol, a spent shell casing and an expended bullet.

The investigation continues.
