Scholarship program open to Alaska residents

Capital City Fire/Rescue is taking applications for openings and for an eligibility list for its scholarship program. The Capital City Fire/Rescue scholarship program is open to Alaska residents planning to attend University of Alaska Southeast.

Capital City Fire/Rescue awards 13 scholarships for each semester. Scholarships are renewable each semester for up to three years of study, provided the student is fulfilling all the requirements of the program. This scholarship program requires participants to be live-in firefighters with Capital City Fire/Rescue.

A panel of judges will select the winners based on each student's future potential to contribute their knowledge and talents in Alaska. In addition, each student's service to their community, service to their school, and school achievements, and will be taken into consideration. Applicants selected from the review process will be invited to participate in interviews on Dec. 9-10. Interviews may be done via teleconference.

Along with the application form, students are asked to include in their scholarship package a letter of application, an official high school and/or college transcript, letters of recommendation, a criminal background check, a driving record, media release form and a health screening form. It is important that all these be submitted with the application.
