The event is sponsored by the Douglas 4th of July Committee.

Mayor Bruce Botelho is scheduled to light the tree this year. New lights and a new star will adorn the tree, organizer Susanne Williams said.

"We just ask everyone to come and bring a flashlight and leave all the dogs at home," she said.

Refreshments will be served and music sheets will be available for singing Christmas carols. There also will be live music by Stroller White Pipes and Drums.

Third Street between F Street and G Street will be barricaded off for the celebration between 5:30 and 8 p.m.

Following the tree lighting there will be a "Skate with Santa" at 8 p.m. at Treadwell Arena, at 105 Savikko Drive. Skating and skate rentals are free for children 12 years of age and under.

"It's a family evening and gets us all together," Williams said.
