The Widowed Persons Program wishes to thank Jamie Mclean, private counselor, and Debbie Sis, Healing Touch practitioner, for their excellent presentation at our "Grief and the Holidays" public program on Nov. 10.
Their presentation offered many useful suggestions for families who have lost a loved one through death to cope more effectively during this coming holiday season. Jamie and Debbie recommended ways to create new traditions that pay tribute to the memory of their loved one. It was the most successful public program sponsored by the WPP to date.
We also want to thank the Widowed Persons members for their wonderful support and assistance in helping with room decorations, providing food, and ensuring that all participants felt welcome at this special public program.
This public event was sponsored by the Juneau Widowed Persons Program which provides activities, support and functions for both men and women of all ages who have been widowed. Program social activities include monthly brunches, dinners, picnics, potluck dinners and support group meetings. The group also organizes special community activities such as day ferry trips, tram rides and dinner, and community tours of Glacier Gardens, state and city museum exhibits, the Jensen-Olson Arboretum and the gallery walk. Many widowed persons discover that they gain insight into their loss when they have an opportunity to talk with others who have been widowed.
