In the GOP primary elections this year, I wanted to vote for Sen. Lisa Murkowski. I am a registered Democrat. Mine was a questioned ballot because my name was not on my precinct register. I was told for this reason I could not vote for Murkowski. I was told the Republican primary was closed to me.
Thursday's Empire editorial spoke of all the reasons I filled in that oval and spelled out Lisa Murkowski in the general election. She does vote and make decisions that may not be in the best interests of her party, but rather good for Alaskans. You are so right that without Independents and Democrats she would not be elected. I believe it is great that Alaskans stood strong, bucked the system and truly elected the candidate of their choice.
If only her own party had recognized she was the one we wanted by allowing everyone to vote in the Republican primary for the candidate of our choice, we would not have to listen or read about all the hoopla now. But on the bright side of all this, we made history again.
