ANCHORAGE - An Alaska liquor store chain is now owned by a Canadian firm.

Brown Jug stores were sold to Liquor Stores Income Fund of Edmonton, Alberta.

The deal was completed Nov. 5.

Former Brown Jug owner Ed O'Neil said the sale is a positive move. He said there will be better control of inventory through an automated point of sale system.

He also said the new company will continue Brown Jug's community service projects.

Brown Jug in the past has removed and cleaned up camps of chronically inebriated people in wooded areas around Anchorage.

The Brown Jug Web site lists 19 store locations in Anchorage and Wasilla.
