... for Halloween help

On behalf of the Home Builders Association of Juneau, I would like to thank Russ McDougal, Pam Johnston, Kelly Stephens, Eric Carver, Bill and Sheila Baxandall, Phil Benson, Kelly Corrigan, Jack Lewis, Ken Brewer and the many other volunteers who helped make the Nightmare 2000 Haunted House a successful fundraising event for the HBA.

With the help of these wonderful people, the citizens of Juneau were treated to a great Halloween event. Money raised from this event will help the HBA of Juneau continue with their many community service projects, such as sponsoring the JDHS Construction Class and providing scholarships to graduating JDHS seniors. We couldn't have done it without you all. Thank you!

... for Lock-Up support

All of "Jerry's kids" throughout Southeast join me in expressing thanks for a successful MDA-Alaska Lock-Up at Carrs Quality Center in the bakery on Nov. 9.

The event was fun for more than 20 "jailbirds" who generously volunteered to serve for MDA-Alaska. Everyone worked hard, calling friends and business associates to raise more than $7,500 in charitable contributions to benefit the local programs of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Top fund-raising "jailbirds" are Marion Hobbs turning in $1,150 and Max Mielke turning in $1,110. We especially want to thank ACS Wireless for donating cellular phones and airtime, Carrs for donating space, snacks and beverages, and Hal Kulm at Pepsi for building a mock jail out of Pepsi cases.

Thanks to the community leaders, business owners and citizens who made the MDA-Alaska Lock-Up a success, Southeast-area families will continue to receive comprehensive medical services at the monthly MDA-Alaska clinics held at Alaska Regional Hospital. They'll also benefit from MDA-Alaska summer camp, and the assistance in the purchase and repair of medical equipment like wheelchairs and leg braces. Most importantly, this Lock-Up and other MDA-Alaska fund-raising events represent hope to the more than 250 Alaska families living with neuromuscular disease that a cure may be found in the near future.

... for sponsorship

The Juneau Racquet Club, as well as all of the local tennis and racquetball players, would like to thank National Bank of Alaska, Alaskan Brewery, Northern Sales, Odom Corp. and the Fiddlehead Restaurant for their generous donations and sponsorship of our 2000 Capital Classic Tennis and Racquetball Tournament held Nov. 10-12 at JRC/Valley.

It is because of the efforts of local businesses that we are able to run these very large events at a cost that is reasonable to the players here in town. We know that Juneau businesses are called upon frequently to support various events and we applaud all of those who chose to be supporters of quality local events.

Thanks again on behalf of all the tournament participants.
