Word of Mouth

Posted: Friday, November 24, 2000

Word of Mouth gives readers a forum to express opinions on a variety of issues by telephone. Calls must be limited to one minute and we reserve the right to edit calls for clarity, length and libel.

Calls will remain anonymous, and opinions will be published if they meet the editor's standards of good taste. The number to call is 586-4636. Then press 8255 to leave your message.

(As you've probably figured out, messages printed here don't necessarily reflect the opinion of the Empire.)

Don't blame teen-agers for car accidents. Speed is not the problem, either. I notice most of the accidents are not on the freeways. The accidents are at intersections due to drivers of all ages not paying attention to oncoming cars before pulling out or making turns. Think about it. Remember the last time you had a car accident or close call - was it due to speed or somebody not paying attention to oncoming cars while turning or pulling out into traffic?

Happy Thanksgiving, Juneau, and thanks to the gentleman at Heritage Coffee Co. for buying me a coffee.

I never voted until 1996 because I am Indian and Alaska Native and didn't trust the government. One year ago I discovered that our vote does not vote for the president, but an electoral college does and I felt betrayed when I discovered that.

I think the city needs to quit adding insult to injury by calling our 5 percent sales tax temporary. If they're going to make it permanent, make it permanent. Quit throwing it up to voters every two years.

I find it a little strange that people are calling and complaining about Alaska Airlines' jets they claim can't land in Seattle. When we leave here where are we going? Seattle.

I'm calling on behalf of Dwight Perkins. I have met Dwight Perkins, and I feel that he's an OK guy and whatever charges have been brought against him, I stand behind him. I find it very unbelievable that he would do such a thing. So as far as I'm concerned, Dwight, you have my support.

This is in response to the Business Spotlight on Corrine Rago of Cornerstone Home Health. She was quoted as saying Cornerstone goes the extra mile. I would like to say as a care receiver, actually for my mother, that not only do Cornerstone and Corrine go the extra mile, she is moving mountains in this community. We are very fortunate to have Cornerstone and Corrine Rago in our community.

As a recent patient in Bartlett Hospital I received a daily copy of the Juneau Empire compliments of AEL&P. Thanks to AEL&P for their thoughtfulness.

I'm so sick of the complainers in this town and this country. We have to take our lumps just like everybody else in this country. Things happen. There's just no way you can legislate everything. All I say is give us a break, everybody. Quit complaining, quit forming groups and quit telling us how to live our lives.
