In season: Black bear (Sept. 1-June 30), brown bear (Sept. 15-Dec. 31, March 15-May 31), deer (Sept. 15-Dec. 31), mountain goat (Sept. 1 or Oct. 1, depending on area,-Nov. 31, area north of Haines Highway and west of the Ferebee River and Glacier closed for the season), wolf (Aug. 1-April 30), wolverine (Nov. 10-Feb. 15), ducks, geese, brants, snipe, crane (Sept. 1-Dec. 15), red and blue king crab (Oct. 1-March 31), coho salmon (June-Nov.). (Seasons and limits are more complex than can be detailed here. Always check regulations before heading out.)

Nov. 24: Ice Cream Social at Eaglecrest, 2-5 p.m. Snow safety and avalanche information booths, vendor displays, contests, door prizes and the chance to make your own ice cream sundae.

Nov. 29: Discovering the Wildlife of the Mendenhall Valley, Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Videos, activity tables, and nature programs aimed at children and families. Details: 789-0097.

Nov. 29: Ecosystem Exploration, Kids Day at the Glacier program about animals of the Mendenhall Valley with naturalist Denise Wolvin, 11 a.m.-noon, Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Dress warm. Details: 789-0097.

Nov. 30: Smokey the Bear, Kids Day at the Glacier program with naturalist Bethany Albrecht, 11 a.m.-noon, Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Details: 789-0097.

Dec. 3: Juneau Alpine Club monthly meeting, 7 p.m., Douglas Library. Details: Greg Bledsoe, 463-3211.

Dec. 5: Juneau Yacht Club Sail Sqadron meeting, 7 p.m. at the club near Aurora Basin.

Ongoing: Eaglecrest Ski Area season passes available at the preseason discount through Thanksgiving weekend. Eaglecrest staff will be at the Nugget Mall for season pass and ski locker sales Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

Ongoing: Trap shooting at the Juneau Gun Club, on Montana Creek Road, 5:30-9 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays. Details: 789-9844.
